Water Leaks from plumbing fixtures, pipes and fittings are a large source of wasted water for many homeowners. Previous research on residential water leaks has shown that the water loss can range from 2,000 to 20,000 gallons per year. If not detected and subsequently repaired, these water leaks can cause both significant damage and a large water bill. 

Some ways to identify a leak are to check around plumbing fixtures or to examine your water bill for unusual fluctuations.  Once you confirm a water leak in your home it is best to first turn off the supply to that fixture.  This will stop the most pressing problem then you should contact a professional plumber to repair the leak or install a new fixture.  

The most common water leaks occur around toilets, sinks, drains, bathtubs and showers. If you notice an obvious from a plumbing fixture then we can help you repair the problem.  The largest issue is many water leaks can go unnoticed for years because the plumbing pipes are behind walls, under the ground or beneath the floor.  

How to Detect a Hidden Water Leak

If you believe that you have a hidden water leak, then we suggest either contacting us or using a water meter. Below are your best options to finding the problem

• Shut off all appliances that use water.  (Best to do this when the family is out of the house to make sure that no one accidentally turns on the water)
• Next go outside and check your water meter.
• Record the number on the water meter
• Wait approximately 3 hours. Of course making sure not to use any water during this time frame)
• Finally go back outside and check your water meter again
• If the number has gone up then you have a water leak somewhere

Once you have confirmed that you have a hidden leak the problem is finding the exact location.
